Following the dismissal of 567 teachers appointed under the PTC Fund in government boys' and girls' primary schools across Khyber District, a severe shortage of teachers has emerged in many schools, raising concerns that the education of thousands of students could be adversely affected.
Hundreds of male and female contract teachers deployed in all three tehsils of Khyber—Landi Kotal, Jamrud, and Bara—have demanded permanent employment from the government.
The teachers stated that they had been performing teaching duties in various government educational institutions for several months and had played a vital role in maintaining the education system.
According to the teachers, they were recruited on a three-month temporary contract to address the shortage of teaching staff in schools. However, with the completion of their contract period, they now face uncertainty regarding their future employment.

Meanwhile, the Education Department has completed the ETEA testing process for permanent teaching positions. Sources say that the results and other recruitment stages have already been finalized, and only the issuance of appointment orders to successful candidates remains pending. Once these orders are issued, the selected candidates will assume their duties in the respective schools.
The contract teachers maintain that they served educational institutions under difficult circumstances and contributed significantly to ensuring continuity in the learning process. Therefore, they urge the government to consider their services and formulate a special policy either to regularize their positions or provide job security.
The teachers have appealed to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Education Department to address their concerns on a priority basis so that both their employment issues and the challenges facing the education system can be resolved.
