Dialysis services for kidney patients have officially been launched for the first time at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Landi Kotal, Khyber district, where the first patient's dialysis was successfully performed.
Residents have welcomed the development as a major milestone, praising the efforts of the provincial government, Provincial Minister Sahibzada Muhammad Adnan Qadri, Medical Superintendent Dr. Jameel Ahmad, and the hospital staff.
On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Inamullah Wazir and Medical Superintendent Dr. Jameel Ahmad visited the dialysis unit to review the newly introduced facilities. Local residents said the service would save kidney patients from traveling to Peshawar for treatment, reducing their financial burden, travel difficulties, and time spent on commuting. They also noted that it would help ease the patient load at the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD).

However, residents also pointed out that the dialysis unit currently has only two machines, both based on older technology, which they say are insufficient to meet the growing demand.
According to the community, the number of kidney patients in Khyber district is steadily increasing, and more than 25 patients are expected to benefit from the service in its initial phase. They stressed that additional modern dialysis machines are urgently needed.
The public has urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to provide at least five modern dialysis machines to Landi Kotal DHQ Hospital, similar to the 30 advanced dialysis machines recently supplied to the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD).
They said this would ensure timely, safe, and quality treatment for kidney patients closer to home, eliminating the need to travel to Peshawar or other cities for dialysis.
