PESHAWAR: The outsourcing of government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has encountered significant implementation challenges, with 64 public schools remaining non-operational despite being included in the outsourcing programme. Questions have also been raised over the accuracy of data regarding schools reported as functional.

According to official documents, the Elementary and Secondary Education Department outsourced 210 government schools in the province's winter zone. However, only 146 schools have become operational, while 64 schools are still inactive.

Sources said that 53 of the non-operational schools could not be made functional due to dilapidated buildings, missing boundary walls, an insufficient number of classrooms, or the lack of basic facilities.

Additionally, four schools are facing accessibility issues, two schools are located in flood-affected areas, three schools are situated in locations where student attendance is not feasible, and one school remains closed due to an ongoing legal dispute.

Meanwhile, District Education Officers from Haripur, Khyber, and Upper Dir have questioned the data submitted on schools reported as operational.

According to sources, objections raised during a departmental meeting prompted authorities to decide on conducting a physical verification of all outsourced schools to confirm their operational status and ensure the accuracy of the reported figures.
