Parachinar – Heads of all government and private educational institutions in Parachinar have announced that schools set to reopen on March 1 will remain closed in protest against the ongoing supply shortages in the region.
Addressing a joint press conference, Principal Marjan Ali, Zahid Hussain, Muhammad Hayat Khan, and other representatives highlighted that for the past five months, over 500,000 residents across more than 100 villages in Upper and Lower Kurram have been suffering due to a lack of food, medical supplies, and fuel.
They stated that in 2024, schools had previously been shut down in protest over fuel shortages, and while March 1 marks the end of the winter vacation, the unavailability of stationery, uniforms, and fuel in the market threatens to disrupt educational activities once again.

The speakers also raised concerns over the burning of Bagan vehicles carrying books and uniforms, which makes it even harder for students to resume their studies. Additionally, they condemned the exorbitant fuel prices in the black market, where petrol is sold for Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 1,500 per liter, making it unaffordable for students and teachers.
They demanded the immediate restoration of transportation routes and fuel supply, warning that until these issues are resolved, schools will remain closed. They also hinted at the possibility of launching a protest movement if the situation persists.
The school heads further expressed concerns over the Kohat education board's alleged unfair marking of students and demanded an end to discriminatory practices in student evaluations.
