PESHAWAR: A serious legal and ethical controversy has emerged over a polio vaccination campaign in Shah Alam on the outskirts of Peshawar, after a doctor and Lady Health Worker accused local authorities of assault and misconduct during a vaccination visit.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Rabia alleged that the Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC) of Shah Alam, Ilyas, along with his armed guards, forcibly entered her home, assaulted her and her family members, violated the sanctity of the house, and damaged her mobile phone.

According to Dr. Rabia, the incident occurred when a polio vaccination team visited her residence. She said the children were away at relatives' home at the time, but an argument allegedly broke out between the family and the AAC's guards, which escalated into physical violence against her husband and brother.

She further claimed that the guards entered the house without the presence of female police officers, assaulted her inside the residence, tore her clothes, and broke her iPhone. She also alleged that her husband and brother were beaten in public, taken to the police station, and booked in what she described as a false case.

Dr. Rabia said she has shared a video with the media, which she claims shows the alleged assault by the AAC's guards.

Meanwhile, the district administration rejected the allegations, stating that the matter relates to a family categorized as "polio vaccine refusal" and is being handled accordingly.

Dr. Rabia appealed to the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Chief Secretary, and the Inspector General of Police to ensure an impartial investigation and provide justice.
