PESHAWAR: Police have revealed that a gang of women involved in house burglaries and robberies in Peshawar had allegedly purchased properties using proceeds from their criminal activities.

According to police, eight suspects, including four women, were arrested during operations conducted by Hayatabad and Tatara police in connection with street crimes, burglaries, car and motorcycle snatching, vehicle theft and other offences. During the raids, police recovered cash worth Rs6.9 million, gold jewellery, foreign currency and other stolen items.

Police said multiple reports of street crime, theft and vehicle snatching had been registered, prompting investigations that led to the arrests. The suspects belong to Afghanistan, Charsadda, Khyber, Mardan and various areas of Peshawar.

Officials said the women were nomads who allegedly travelled to different localities to commit crimes. The gang reportedly gained access to homes under the pretext of seeking employment, begging or using other excuses before stealing valuables.

In one case, a complainant reported that he had left his door open while going out to buy kebabs for guests. Upon returning, he discovered that eight tolas of gold had been stolen from a cupboard inside his house.

Police said the suspects were traced and arrested with the help of CCTV footage and other evidence. SHO Hayatabad Kamran said the women confessed during interrogation that they had purchased land using money obtained through thefts.

The other arrested suspects were allegedly involved in robberies, car and motorcycle snatching and related crimes. Police said the accused spent stolen money on various illegal activities.

Authorities recovered 700 US dollars, six vehicles, two motorcycles, two electric scooters and a large amount of cash from the suspects. The recovered property has been returned to its rightful owners.
