Electricity is likely to become more expensive for consumers across the country. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to NEPRA seeking an increase of Rs. 2.52 per unit in electricity prices.
According to NEPRA, the CPPA filed the request under the July Fuel Price Adjustment. A hearing on the request will be held on August 27.
If approved, the increase would impose an additional burden of approximately Rs. 41 billion on consumers, including GST.
According to the CPPA, 10.78% of electricity was generated from imported LNG in July, at a cost of Rs. 47.37 per unit. A total of Rs. 77.19 billion worth of electricity was generated from LNG.

In July, 1.42% of electricity was generated from furnace oil, at a cost of Rs. 50.07 per unit, while electricity worth Rs. 10.77 billion was generated from furnace oil.
The data shows that 39.81% of electricity was generated from hydropower, 10.91% from local coal, 14.38% from imported coal, and 10.10% from nuclear sources in July. The fuel cost of nuclear-generated electricity was Rs. 3.02 per unit.
According to the request, 31 million units of electricity were also generated from diesel, at a cost of Rs. 54.47 per unit.
