With temperatures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rising to potentially life-threatening levels, the General Directorate of Civil Defence has issued an urgent advisory, warning residents of extreme weather conditions in the coming days.

Authorities predict the mercury could soar between 47 to 55 degrees Celsius, posing severe risks to public health.

In light of the intense heat and suffocating weather, citizens have been urged to take extra precautions. The public is advised to avoid going out between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and to stay hydrated by consuming ample water and cold beverages.

The Civil Defence advisory also includes specific safety measures for vehicle owners. Citizens are instructed not to leave gas-filled items, lighters, carbonated drinks, perfumes, or extra batteries inside their vehicles. It is recommended to avoid filling fuel tanks completely and to refuel during the evening hours.

Car windows should be kept slightly open, and tire pressure should be maintained at moderate levels to prevent the risk of explosions.

Additionally, the department has warned that due to the extreme heat, scorpions and snakes may emerge from their burrows in search of cooler spaces, potentially entering homes and fields. Residents are urged to remain vigilant.

The public is also cautioned against placing gas cylinders in direct sunlight and overloading electric meters to avoid possible accidents.

Civil Defence authorities have stressed the importance of strictly following these safety measures to protect lives and health during the ongoing heatwave.
