PESHAWAR—The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has announced the launch of a comprehensive life insurance scheme starting January 1, 2025.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, where the progress of eight flagship projects of the provincial government was reviewed.
Under the scheme, families of deceased breadwinners will receive financial support if the death occurs in a government hospital or a health card-affiliated facility. Beneficiaries will be eligible for a cash payout of PKR 1 million if the deceased is under 60 years old and PKR 500,000 if over 60.

Sources revealed that the scheme will cost the provincial government an estimated PKR 4.5 billion annually, which the government will fully cover. To ensure the scheme's smooth implementation, the Chief Minister set a three-month deadline for the establishment of a provincial Islamic Takaful Insurance Company, which will manage the program.
The meeting also highlighted the government’s ongoing infrastructure projects. Chief Minister Gandapur directed that Lot 1 of the provincial transmission line project must be completed on schedule. The Finance Department was instructed to release PKR 2 billion for the Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, emphasizing the government’s commitment to social welfare and infrastructure development.
The life insurance scheme aims to provide financial security to vulnerable families, demonstrating the provincial government’s focus on enhancing social welfare while advancing critical infrastructure projects. This initiative marks a significant step in supporting the well-being of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s citizens.
