Rapid glacier melt in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Hunza district has caused the water level in the Hunza River to rise sharply, triggering flooding in the area.
According to sources, at Morkhoon, the flow of the river has completely blocked the Karakoram Highway, cutting off the land route between Pakistan and China.
The highway has been closed to all traffic, and local residents have been advised to take precautionary measures.

The Meteorological Department and the Disaster Management Authority have warned that if glacier melting continues at the current pace, the flooding situation could worsen in the coming days.
Meanwhile, various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been badly affected by the ongoing monsoon rains.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that since June 25, at least 71 people have lost their lives and 86 have been injured in incidents of flooding, lightning strikes, and roof collapses.
